City gets scattered rains, set for two more rainy days

HYDERABAD: Unseasonal rains played spoilsport on the weekend, with a cloudy afternoon turning into a rainy evening as scattered showers hit the city for over an hour on Saturday evening, accompanied by gusty winds and thundershowers.

Rains were recorded at Miyapur, JNTU, Bachupally, Nizampet, Kondapur, Old City, Rajendranagar, Mansoorabad, Hayathnagar, LB Nagar, Nagole, Hasthinapuram, Ibrahimpatnam, Lingampally, Turkamyamjal, Hitec City, Shamshabad, Kishanbagh, Attapur, Mehdipatnam, Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Financial District, Gachibowli, Shaikpet and Toli Chowki.

Districts were not spared on the day either, with Rangareddy, Medchal, Mahbubnagar, Nagar Kurnool, Narayanapet, Sangareddy, Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Nalgonda, Wanaparthy, Siddipet, Vikarabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri clocking moderate rainfall.

According to the TS Development & Planning Society reports, Vikarabad recorded the highest rainfall for the day, at 70 mm, followed by Mahbubnagar, at 63 mm, and Siddipet, at 45.3 mm. In city limits, Chandrayangutta recorded the highest rainfall, at 13.8 mm, followed by KPHB, at 10.3 mm, and Kanchanbagh, at 4 mm.

The MeT department, however, stated that the cyclonic circulation over north-interior Karnataka was decreasing in intensity, with rains over the next two days set to be followed by hotter days, as temperatures are predicted to rise by 2-3°C from May 9.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, issued a yellow alert for the next two days for Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Vikarabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, Karimnagar, Peddapally and Rajanna Sircilla.

Light to moderate rains and thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in these districts.

The city will experience a generally cloudy sky and light to moderate rains are very likely in parts of the city towards the evening or night, over the next 48 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36°C and 25°C, respectively.
