Three IAS officers get one month jail term in contempt of court case

A single judge bench of Justice Battu Devanand issued the orders

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has sentenced three senior IAS officers to one- month jail term and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each in a contempt of court case here on Friday.

A single judge bench of Justice Battu Devanand issued the orders on agriculture special chief secretary Poonam Malakondaiah, agriculture former commissioner Arun Kumar and civil supplies managing director Veerapandian.

When the two IAS officers -- Arun Kumar and. Veerapandian -- appeared before the court, the judge issued an order to suspend the sentence for six weeks based on their appeal.

However, the court refused to suspend the sentence as special chief secretary Poonam Malakondaiah failed to appear before the court.

Meanwhile, the special chief secretary moved the bench on the single judge verdict. Accordingly, the bench comprising Chief Justice Prashant Mishra and Justice Satyanarayana Murthy issued a stay order, giving some relief to her.
