Kerala has enough seats for winners
Thiruvananthapuram: There will be enough Plus-One seats for SSLC-passed students seeking higher education. Apart from higher secondary, there are 27,500 VHSE seats, 11,000 ITI seats, 16,000 ITC seats and 22,000 polytechnic seats. If these are also considered, there are 4.88 lakh seats available for Plus- Two.
Of the total of 4, 35,142 students who appeared for the SSLC examination this year, 4, 26,513 have become eligible for higher studies. A number of students have joined state Plus-Two from other syllabus. A total of 37,035 students joined state higher secondary from CBSE and 3,360 joined state higher secondary from ICSE in 2017-18. In 2018-19, the total number of students who joined higher secondary from CBSE was 38, 985 and 3,879 from ICSE.
Sources said that there was a disparity in the number of seats in various districts with northern Kerala having fewer students and southern Kerala having excess number.
Moreover, for many years, higher secondary schools have recorded vacant seats after the admission process was over.
Last year the government had increased Plus-One seats in government and aided higher secondary schools in Malapp-uram, Kozhikode, Palakk-ad, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasargod to tide over the shortage.
In case there is a shortage of seats, there is a provision for 20 percent annual increase in the seats.
