Hyderabad cops issue alert to vacationing people
Hyderabad: In view of people moving out of the city on summer vacation and the possibility of criminal gangs striking on the outskirts, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police have issued safety advisories.
The most important advice is not to leave gold jewellery in the house when you leave for holidays and also not to leave elderly people alone. Police issued a series of instructions to prevent thefts and attention diversion offences.
Police said that despite advisories and conducting awareness programs in residential colonies on precautions to be taken while leaving home for long periods, people have not been careful, resulting in thefts. It is found that many people while leaving home, lock their houses but use cheap locks on main doors.
"Apart from this they leave gold jewellery at home locked in almirahs and keep the keys in a shelf near the almirah or just hang them on the door which makes it easy for criminals," an official from Rachakonda said.
The most alarming aspect is the absence of CCTV cameras in many residential areas including posh areas which is also one of the reasons of thefts.
"People spend so much on houses but are not concerned about the safety of their homes and neglect installing CCTV cameras which could be of great use for them as well as others," another official from Cyberabad said.
Police say that since many residents leave homes chances of attention diversion gangs striking are high. These gangs move around in the guise of asking address, gold polishing etc. "Residents should be careful not to disclose their travel plans to strangers to avoid untoward incidents," a senior police official said.
