Jude Anthany Joseph denies abusing mayor Soumini Jain, calls himself a scapegoat'

Mr Anthany was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday on the complaint filed by the minister, and was released later on a personal bail.

Kochi: Film maker Jude Anthany denied that he had used foul language against Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain in connection with his request for using Subhash Park for the shooting of a film. In a Facebook post, the director said he became a “scapegoat for taking the initiative for doing something good”. Saying that he was making the statement with a heavy heart, Mr Anthany said he was planning to make a short film for creating awareness about abominable practice of sexual assaults against children along with actor Nivin Pauly and the Child Rights Commission. He said although he tendered a personal apology to the mayor, she asked him to offer an apology in a news conference.

Mr Anthany was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday on the complaint filed by the minister, and was released later on a personal bail. “It was after spending hefty amount that we renovated the Subhash Park. We had given this place for shooting earlier, but over 30 springlers and grass beds were damaged. The media itself lashed out against me for allowing it to be used that way. The corporation decided not to permit shooting after that. A bylaw in this regard was passed. As the director was adamant to get the park for shooting, I said the matter will be placed before the council. But he was not ready for that, so I called the deputy mayor and other concerned persons. They too were not supportive. This made the director angry, and he started shouting and used abusive words against me in front of my office staff. He not only insulted me but the mayor’s post,” said mayor Soumini Jain when contacted.
