Jishnu Pranoy death: Congress condemns police violence
Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress condemned the police action on the protestors in various parts of the state during the hartal on Thursday while many political leaders visited Mahija, mother of Jishnu Pranoy, who has gone on a hunger strike at the medical college hospital here. KPCC president M. M. Hassan alleged that the police used water cannons against Congress supporters without any provocation. Mr Hassan told reporters that several KSU, Youth Congress and Congress leaders were admitted to various hospitals due to police attacks.
Mr V. M. Sudheeran posted on his Facebook page that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has no right to continue in his post after giving a clean chit to the police team who manhandled Mahija. “On Thursday, Power Minister M. M. Mani rallied behind Pinarayi which is despicable as the former himself is an accused in a murder case,” said Mr Sudheeran.
Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala asked Mr Pinarayi Vijayan to apologise to the parents and relatives of Jishnu Pranoy for the police high handedness against them on Wednesday. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan and former president V. Muraleedharan also called on Mahija. BJP state general secretary Sobha Surendran shot off a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and national women’s commission seeking central intervention on the police highhandedness against Mahija.
