CPM politburo member M A Baby sees bid to subvert police policy
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM politburo member M A Baby said some of the incidents that happened in recent months seriously points to a deliberate attempt from a section of police to undermine LDF government’s police policy. Baby said the chief minister who also holds the home portfolio is competent to rein in such elements. The chief minister had already spelt out the government policy on how to deal with peoples protest and agitations. “What happened in front of police headquarters on Wednesday diametrically opposite to what was spelt out,” Baby told DC.
The CPM politburo member said the cops who ill-treated Jishnu’s mother seems to have not understood the LDF policy. They need to be dealt with sternly. Demonstration, march or satyagraha in front of police stations were a common mode of protest in the state. There is no justification for banning protests in front of police headquarters when such agitations are permitted at police stations, he said. There is no justification in the argument that police headquarters cannot be defiled by agitations. Baby said Mahija’s protest was with the sole purpose of pointing out the lapses in police investigations. The police should not have dealt with her agitation in the manner in which it confronts other protesters.
All democratic forces should join hands to bring the culprits behind Jishnu’s murder to justice. He slammed the UDF and BJP for politicising the issue. “UDF government which went out of the way to allow self financing colleges wantonness and communal forces were now exploit Jishnu’s death for their vested political interest. “It it is high time their stand is exposed,” he said. Baby said Mahija’s family is a party family and leaders including politburo member and branch committee members would stand by them. “Our party and government is with the family and we will do whatever is required to get justice,” he said.
