Calicut University to grant more time to scholars to submit thesis
KOZHIKODE: Calicut University will give six months to two years time to research scholars who have registered for PhD but could not complete for various reasons. The Courses and Research Committee has decided to conduct individual meetings with those scholars who are interested in continuing their research. The committee has also decided to discuss with the University Standing Counsel about the legal action to be taken against those researchers who had received the fellowship amount but did not turn up for the university offer.
The Committee has also decided to table the issue of applications pending before the university from various teachers for research guideships over the years in the next syndicate meeting. The Committee also decided to take favourable decisions on applications from scholars who abandoned research after registration many years back. Applications by various affiliated colleges to get research centres will also be considered in the next Syndicate meeting.
The decision to allot research centres to various departments has been pending in the varsity for a long time. "We are planning to give maximum research centres and guideships to Colleges in order to tackle the UGC decision to curb research opportunities. “The University will also explore various possibilities within the permissible legal limits to tackle the UGC move," said a Courses and Research committee member.
