Chennai: Man held for making hoax bomb threat

Sources said, after a thorough search of the premises, the officials confirmed the phone call to be a hoax.

Chennai: The police has arrested a man from Coimbatore for making phone calls claiming that the bombs had been placed at the residences of the former chief minister J. Jayalalitha and actor Rajinikanth in Poes Garden in Chennai.

According to police, on Tuesday night, the Chennai police control room received the call from the man who said that bombs had been placed at the residences of Jayalalitha and Rajinikanth in Poes Garden. The bombs squad was immediately sent to Poes Garden.

Sources said, after a thorough search of the premises, the officials confirmed the phone call to be a hoax.

However, police traced the call and found the man as Mohamed Ali, who hails from Coimbatore. Police found he suffers from mental health issues, on questioning him. He was detained and further investigations are on. It may be noted that two days ago a 37-year-old man was arrested for making a hoax bomb threat call to the police control room in the city. The man, a carpenter and painter in Teynampet, was in an inebriated state when he made the call. He claimed that he had overheard his wife talking on the phone about a bomb blast at the Chennai Central railway station. He allegedly made the call to get his wife in trouble as she often quarreled with him.
