Upasana Nursing College students can't lock doors to change dress
Kollam: Taking a leaf out of uprising at the Kerala Law Academy, students of Upasana Nursing College at Mukhathala here are on an indefinite strike against alleged caste slur and intrusions of privacy. The Nurses Students Union, which launched the oust-principal campaign, also allege that the college authorities fine them heavily over small issues. “The new rule in the hostel is that girls should not lock doors while changing dress," a student of the all-women college said.
"The principal and teachers will call us lesbians if we place two beds together. We have permission to speak to our parents only twice a week. All of us in four batches depend on a single phone to make calls.” They said the management force them to stay in the hostel by paying Rs 3000 per month even if their houses are at a walkable distance. The get fined even for growing long nails and hair. Their talks with the management failed as they could not reach a consensus on 20 demands they raised.
