Kerala: Special investigation team to investigate siblings' suicide

Minors ended life 52 days apart.

PALAKKAD: A special investigation team has been set up for the mysterious suicides of two siblings at their hut at Attapalam in Walayar within a span of 52 days. Hrithika, 11, had committed suicide on January 13 and her younger sister, Sharanya, 9, on Saturday. The schoolgirls are daughters of Bhagyavathi of Selvapuram. Walayar sub-inspector P. C. Chacko said Bhagyavathi and her partner Shaji are casual labourers living in the hut with children. The couple consumed alcohol after work at home, and there were frequent quarrels.

They were not married, and the girls were born from her relationship with another man with whom she had parted ways. ASP G. Poonguzhali will oversee the investigation headed by H-Nagar CI Premanadakrishnan. “We have started questioning of the parents, relatives, teachers, friends and neighbours," she said.
"The phone records of parents will be verified, and possibilities of any foul play will be looked into as there is a mystery surrounding the incidents." The chemical examination of samples taken during the postmortem of Hrithika did not find anything suspicious, and the report of the younger girl will be handed over to police by doctors on Tuesday. The doctor who conducted the postmortem of Sharanya had found no visible signs of torture.
