Thrissur: As the Tamil Nadu government is continuing to violate the Aliyar- Parabikulam Project (APP) treaty, the state government is planning to deal with the issue at the administrative, political and legal level, Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas said. He was speaking at the official-level meeting in Thrissur on Monday to review the drought situation in Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts. The APP treaty is in favour of TN and that too needed to be again looked at and altered, he said. “In all such matters, the union government should intervene,” the Minister said.
He added that in the Thrissur-Palakkad region, there was shortage of water and his department was taking proper action to face the drought. “In the Thrissur-Palakkad region, a total of 5585 bore wells will be cleaned and 585 micro water schemes will be implemented. A total of Rs 12 crore has been allotted for this. Besides that, in Malappuram, 259 new borewells along with 260 in Palakkad, and 300 in Thrissur will be made available,” the minister said. Additional chief secretary V.J. Kurian, Water Authority MD Shinamol among others were present.
