Odisha: Teacher made to prostate for offensive comment against student

The girl told her parents about the incident following which they brought the matter to the gram sabha.

BHUBANESWAR: A government school teacher in Odisha’s Angul district resigned from his job on Thursday after he was made to prostrate and apologise for his alleged offensive comment against a girl student.

The teacher has been identified as Laxminarayan Prasad Bhujabal, 37, of Patakamunda High School in Chhendipada block of the district. On December 18 when a Class VIII girl was wishing him after morning prayers he had reportedly responded to her by saying “Raise up darling, I love you”.

The girl told her parents about the incident following which they brought the matter to the gram sabha. Other villagers there alleged that Bhujabal had earlier too behaved in a similar way with many girls.

A meeting was called and in the presence of the managing committee members of the school and over 250 villagers Bhujabal was made to confess to his mistake by prostrating before the members of gram sabha.
