Bengaluru is no longer a safe city

The goons and rowdies behind the spate of gruesome crimes have our politicians to thank for their freedom.

The Kammanahalli incident? It was horrendous, to put it mildly! I’m glad the police caught the violators, but I can’t bring myself to believe that Bengaluru is safer than any other city. It’s my home, but life here is like a Kaliyug at the moment. Women have been molested all their lives, whether it’s verbal or physical. We are not safe anywhere.

The goons and rowdies behind the spate of gruesome crimes have our politicians to thank for their freedom.

These are the men who surface during elections, when they serve their sole purpose – to garner votes for the political leader backing them. What about the rest of the time? They move around, scot-free, committing crimes to which society insists on turning a blind eye. It is the mentality that has to change.

Boys and girls should not be segregated in schools. As the rot has already set in one must take urgent steps to raise awareness in youngsters and also at the grassroot levels. Remember the fact that a CCTV led to these goons being caught. Technology can play a bigger part.

Our Prime Minister talks about digitising India. Why not have a system that can profile and store details of repeat offenders? Why can we not have tools such as ankle bracelets that monitor perverts. Also background checks must be conducted regularly especially in the case of delivery men. We can't escape online shopping.

It is a part of evolution. These ideas are just being bandied about but nothing is ever done. I believe that extreme measures is the need of the hour. Kangaroo courts are that can swiftly punish these criminals are much needed. Hang them, flog them in public. Something drastic needs to be done to such goons. Justice delayed is justice denied.
