Ballari: Addressing the critical issue of the absence of a dedicated school for blind children in the district, MLC YM Sathish has appealed for government support during the Question Hour at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi.
Expressing his commitment to the cause, Sathish stated, "If the government provides the necessary land, I am committed to constructing a state-of-the-art building at my own expense, which will be subsequently handed over to the government."
He stressed the importance of appointing expert and qualified staff for the proposed school and offered his assistance in the recruitment process.
Sathish raised concerns about the monthly pension for differently-abled individuals, highlighting the inadequacy of the current amounts—Rs 600, Rs 800, and Rs 1,000—based on the degree of physical disability. Expressing his firsthand experience as a parent of a disabled son, the MLC empathized with the financial challenges faced by families.
Calling for immediate action, Sathish emphasized the need to relax conditions, such as caste and income certificates, required for granting honorarium to differently-abled persons. He advocated for a non-discriminatory approach, stating, "Let us have a policy that treats all persons with disabilities equally."
Drawing attention to the shortage of teachers at a government school for the hearing-impaired in Ballari, MLC Sathish urged prompt action. He highlighted the dilapidated condition of the school building, already brought to the Deputy Commissioner's notice, and appealed for immediate steps to recruit teachers and construct new facilities.
