Wakf's new scheme to fund last rites
Hyderabad: Moved by the plight of poor families who are struggling to meet funeral expenses of their loved ones, the TS state Wakf Board will provide financial assistance of Rs 10,000.
Mohammed Saleem, chairman of the TS Wakf Board, said, “Needy people can approach us for assistance. Our inspectors will go to the house and after basic enquires hand over the money to the family.”
He said whenever the office of the Board was approached for financial assistance to meet funeral expenses it has always provided the money.
The new scheme is being implemented across TS and a phone number will be made public soon. “The Wakf Board is meant for the benefit of the community and we will ensure help is provided to the needy in time,” Mr Saleem promised.
Exorbitant amounts of money are collected by graveyard managements, but Mr Saleem said that burial in all graveyards under the management of the TS Wakf Board are free. “No one should charge any money even for maintenance of the graveyards. Anybody extorting money from the bereaved families will be dealt with strongly,” he warned.
