Hyderabad: More heads to roll in land mutation racket
Hyderabad: More heads are likely to roll in the mutation racket in Serilingampally masterminded by two GHMC contract employees.
The Cyberabad police suspect that more names of contract and regular employees involved in the racket may emerge during further investigation.
On Saturday, the cybercrime sleuths arrested two contract staff identified as Bathala Polaiah and Lakhan Singh.
Mr Polaiah alone is responsible for around 200 fake mutation entries in the past two years and had earned around Rs 80 lakh in this period.
Janaki Sharmila DCP (Crimes) Cyberabad, said, “We suspect more persons are involved in this huge racket and a custody petition has already been filed before the court. Once they are taken into custody and investigated thoroughly, more details of the racket and names of more persons involved will come out.”
A few low level employees of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are also being probed and some names have emerged in the primary investigation.
“We are in the process of collecting evidence on their role in the racket,” the police officer said. Mr Polaiah, who is a data entry operator under the chief evaluation officer, had been faking mutation entries using his iphone 7 mobile, which he operated using the broadband connection of a private service provider.
The scam came to light when officials from the GHMC's Serilingampally circle office found that the ownership of some land belonging to one Mulagiri Narayana, was changed to another person’s name without the owner’s knowledge.
