Karnataka: Army's logistics wing ASC Centre shows off its prowess
BENGALURU: The ASC Centre and colleges held a demonstration on Monday for the media. The ASC Centre's 2nd Training Centre showcased some of its finest athletes and sports achievers.
The demonstration also showed how the Indian Army had painstakingly trained each and every recruit.
With smoke billowing from smoke grenades, the young recruits showed their skill by completing a 21- obstacle course. The course, designed to hone the average recruit’s physical skills and make them ready for the Indian Army, showed the young recruits at their fittest.
The taekwondo team was there too and they mesmerized the audience with their breathtaking precision. The taekwondo team of the 2 ASC Training Centre, Bengaluru, recently won the Overall Team Championship in the Men's category at the 34th National Kyorugi Taekwondo championship held in 2015 at Cuttack in Odisha. The team managed to haul in 7 out of the 8 medals at the competition.
The diving team too was felicitated as it bagged 3 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the Senior National Aquatics Championships-2016 held at Ranchi.
Muleteer, mules and horses were the backbone of ASC until motorized transport appeared onto the scene. In those days, in many places the only transport that was available were the animal-pulled transport carts. As a tribute to the Indian Army's ‘Silent Servers’ the ASC Centre and College decided to create a memorial befitting their valued contribution.
Under the stewardship of Lt. Gen SK Dahiya, the then Commandant of ASC Centre and College, the saga of their service was brought to life in the form of a sculpture erected in the Equitation Training Area at the ASC Centre and College, Bangalore.
The Animal Transport museum also houses the Mechanical Transport museum. Conceived as a tribute to the valiant services provided by the unflinching mechanical warriors of the Indian Army Mechanical Transport Fleet, “The Heritage MT Park” established at the ASC Centre & College, is a result of the impetus provided by the Commandant, Lt Gen S.P.S. Katewa, AVSM, to document, exhibit and educate the coming generations about their exploits.
According to Lt Col Shiv Prakash, "The ASC is over 256 years old. It is the largest logistics service in the Indian Army. It is the ASC's job to ensure ammunition and rations are made available to soldiers in far-flung places."
