Governor P Sathasivam calls for better health awareness

According to him, less health is directly related to low quality of life where human rights are also seriously violated.

KOCHI: The high cost of medication coupled with lack of health care awareness is jeopardizing the welfare of the masses despite the high growth rate of the country, said Justice (retd.) P. Sathasivam, Chancellor of universities in the state and Governor of Kerala. According to him, less health is directly related to low quality of life where human rights are also seriously violated.

The Chancellor was inaugurating the five day national conference on ‘Health Care Systems in India and Human Rights Concerns’ organized by Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair on Human Rights at CUSAT School of Legal Studies. The Chancellor also launched the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) at CUSAT on the occasion.

The Governor exhorted doctors to use plain language instead of medical jargons while communicating with patients. They should also encourage patients to ask questions. “Government schemes without the support of medical practitioners won’t serve their purpose,” he said CUSAT Vice-Chancellor Dr. J. Letha presided over the function.
