Babri Masjid alert in Malabar districts

The 16th century mosque was demolished on December 6, 1992, by Hindutva forces.

KOZHIKODE: A special alert has been sounded by the district police chiefs in Malabar districts to all police stations in the backdrop of the Babri Masjid Day that falls on December 6 (today). According to Kozhikode city police commissioner Uma Behra, station house officers and other security heads have been given instructions to be more vigilant in sensitive areas, especially where there is a heavy flow of pilgrims to Sabarimala.

“Railway stations, bus stations and other key areas, where there are chances of a chaos would be extra vigilant ahead of the Babri Masjid Day. As of now, no threats were received at the Special Branches, but we are vigilant to prevent any untoward incidents in the city that sees a regular flow of pilgrims to Sabarimala,” said Ms Behra.

Wayanad district police chief K. Karthik said that preventive arrests would be made by Monday night after checking the list of possible people from each police station limits, who would be released later. “Night patrolling and vehicle checkings would be intensified in the next few hours and special focus has been given to areas like Kambalakkad and Vellamunda, where communal outbreaks were reported,” said Mr Karthik.
