HYDERABAD: Majestic, decorated and well-massaged with oil to give extra glow to their skins, scores of bulls enthralled thousands of visitors at Sadar Utsav at Khairatabad here on Friday.

Sadar Utsav is a carnival for the Yadav community, which takes place soon after Diwali. Families and friends meet and greet during the festival and a contest of bulls takes place on the occasion. They are paraded in a procession with brass bands and DJ music, with people dancing to ‘teen-maar’ steps.

A 12-foot long, 7-foot height and weighing close to 500 kilograms bull, Rana, was the cynosure of all eyes in the festival. Rana was brought from Haryana by Sai Suriketh Yadav.

The Sadar Utsav at Narayanguda, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday is considered as the biggest event, for which many bulls have been brought to the city from across the country.

On Friday, the Sadar took place at Khairatabad, Risala Bazar and Bolarum. Gotla Amarnath Yadav, one of the organisers said, “This is one of the oldest Sadar Utsavs, where all the Yadav families in surrounding areas come and participate. This is a meeting place for families and friends. Those who are bringing the bulls for the contest will be felicitated and a memento is given.”

Bulls from Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Domalguda, Puranapul, Ameerpet, Chintal Basti and Anand Nagar Colony took part in the Khairatabad Sadar Utsav. Mahesh Yadav, who is the organiser of the event, said, “We have been celebrating Sadar Utsav for the past six decades here at Khairatabad. Around five to six thousand visitors witnessed this event.
