Hyderabad: Fire broke out on Saturday in one of the rooms on the ground floor of the Rail Nilayam building at Secunderabad, the official headquarters of the South Central Railway. Police said some old, condemned furniture stored in the room was gutted.

The skeletal staff who was on duty on Saturday, alerted the RPF on the Rail Nilayam campus and fire fighters. Fire tenders soon reached the spot and doused the blaze.

An inquiry will be undertaken to ascertain the cause of the fire, said a press release issued by SCR later in the evening.

Employees working near the Railway Recruitment Cell on the ground floor saw smoke coming out of the room where old furniture was stored. Suddenly flames started to rise. The recruitment cell office is located in a room near this room.
SCR employees said the fire was doused before it could turn into a major one.

An SCR spokesperson said it was a minor fire and that took place at 1.15 pm in the far north corner of Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad which led to some old and damaged furniture getting burnt.

Noticing the smoke, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel immediately rushed to the spot and took steps to put out the fire. The fire brigade too was immediately informed.

Two fire engines reached within minutes and brought the fire under total control. No records or files were burnt in the mishap or damage caused to the building. No papers pertaining to the Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC) were burnt as was suspected, the press release added.
