ED raids houses of WB minister, civic body heads

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided and searched the residences of West Bengal food supplies minister Rathin Ghosh and several top functionaries of civic bodies in and around Kolkata on Thursday to investigate a recruitment scam in those entities.

The list included 13 addresses in Dum Dum, Baranagar, Titagarh and Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas. The raid, which began at 6.30 am, continued through the day.

The ED raided the house of Mr Ghosh at Michael Nagar to probe ineligible recruitment at Madhyamgram Municipality. Mr Ghosh is also the former chairman of the municipality. This is the first time a state minister came under the scanner in the case.

Another ED team raided the house of TMC leader Gopal Saha who is Kamarhati Municipality chairman. Among others were the houses of Nitai Dutta, the chairman and Panchu Gopal, the vice-chairman of South Dum Dum Municipality.

Searches were also conducted at the houses of Prashanta Chowdhury, the former chairperson of Titagarh Municipality and Aparna Mullick, the Baranagar Municipality chairperson.
