Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Hospitals get show cause notice from authorities
Anantapur: Stoppage of surgeries relating to ophthalmic, tubectomy and even emergency cases in the Vaidya Vidhana Parishad hospitals in the district is forcing patients to approach private hospitals.
It has come to the notice of the higher authorities that the specialist doctors at the APVP hospitals were not performing surgeries since April 1. As a result, the patients are losing the government incentives under the Dr YSRC AarogyaSri scheme and the Arogya Asara.
The Anantapur district area hospitals coordinator had recently issued show cause notices to all the hospitals asking them to explain why they were not performing the surgeries even as all necessary facilities and equipment were available there. The superintendent noticed that no surgery was performed in ophthalmic and even the family planning operations in addition to other emergency surgeries for patients dependent on government hospitals under the control of the AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad.
The district area coordinator sought an explanation from the medical superintendent and medical officers of APVVP hospitals for the lapses. The show cause notice also warned of action against the errant specialist doctors.
The surgeries were stopped by doctors, citing reasons of Covid-19 spread, when several hospitals were converted into Covid hospitals during the second wave of the pandemic. The ophthalmology and family planning operations were reportedly not conducted since April by citing reasons of Covid-spread. The Anantapur GGH coordinator served show cause notices to the surgeons for neglecting their duties
At Hindupur district area hospital, there were four specialist doctors. But not even a single tubectomy or other major surgeries were performed there for the past six months. Seven other surgeries were conducted in the district area hospital.
Similarly, the Kadiri APVVP hospital has six specialist doctors but not even a single surgery in their respective fields was performed from April till date. The Guntakal, Tadipathri, Penukonda and Madakasira hospitals’ records revealed no surgery was performed during the past six months while the patients had, alternatively, to depend on private nursing homes by spending huge money during emergency situations.
“All the government hospitals of AP VVP have the necessary facilities and equipment to perform surgeries for the patients, but they are not being made use of,” the show cause notice by the district area coordinator stated.
According to the records, more than 50 specialist doctors of ophthalmic, gynaecology, ENT, orthopaedic and other wings are posted at different hospitals in the district.
