Kochi braces up for hosting FIFA Under-17 World Cup
Kochi: Extensive traffic arrangements are being put in place by the city police for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup matches to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor on Saturday. Contract carriages and other heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Banerjee Road from Palarivattom from 2 p.m on the day of the matches and parking too is banned along the High Court-Edappally Bypass stretch. Small vehicles carrying spectators should park at the KWA land behind the stadium. Bigger vehicles can park on service roads on both sides of the Vytilla-Edappally NH, Seaport-Airport Road and Container Terminal Road.
Only those with car passes will be allowed to park their vehicles in the parking ground at stadium. The stadium round will be open only to VIP vehicles. Small vehicles going to High Court from Vypeen should park on St. Albert’s Ground. Heavy vehicles coming from Vypeen and Cheranalloor areas should let out soccer buffs at Kalamassery Premier Junction and Edappally Bypass Junction and park along the Container Terminal Road. Metro or bus services should be used to proceed to stadium. Only service buses will be allowed in city after 2 p.m. from the Goshree Bridges.
Vehicles from Kozhikode, Kannur Thrissur and Palakkad, should empty spectators at Aluva Manalpuram, Aluva metro station, Kalamassery Premier Junction, and Edappally and park at Aluva Manapluram and Container Terminal Road. They also can use Metro services to reach JN Stadium. Vehicles from Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kottayam should allow spectators to get down at Palarivattom Junction and park along service road on the Palarivattom-Kundannoor national highway. Those from Idukki, Kakkanad, and Muvattupuzha should get down at Palarivattom Junction and park their vehicles along the service road at Palarivattom Bypass Junction.
Vehicles proceeding from Thammanam and Vytilla should take deviation to Samskara Junction from Thammanam Junction and then move on the Pipeline Road to enter the JN stadium. Entry to Karanakkodam Road from Thammanam Junction will be banned. Traffic will not be allowed between Kathrukkadavu Junction and Karanakkodam Junction and Thammanam Junction and Karanakkodam Junction after 9.30 p.m. on October 7, 10, 13 and 18. Parking will be banned on the four-lane road from Karanakkodam Junction to stadium between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The road around the stadium would be accessible to only those with tickets. Entry to the stadium will begin sharp at 3 p.m. Bare minimum articles like essential medicines, feeding bottles for children, purses, and small vanity bags of women would be allowed inside the stadium. Drinking water, food packets, stick, drums, helmets and bags will not be permitted inside. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the stadium on Thursday and reviewed arrangements.
