Kerala: Mediapersons march in protest, seek justice
KOZHIKODE: Demanding eradication of the threats and insecurity faced by media persons, the Kerala union of working journalists conducted a protest gathering in the premises of the Calicut Press Club on Thursday. The protest was in the wake of the recent attack on journo Dileep TD representing Malayalam Manorama Daily allegedly by drug mafia goons.
Noted historian MGS Narayanan, after inaugurating the gathering, said, “The attack on the mediaperson cannot be accepted at any cost. The allegation on the contact between police and drug mafia should be taken seriously. The steps taken by the journalist union and the public in raising a voice against the attack is clear evidence of the existence of democracy. The freedom of journalists to work without fear should be ensured at any cost.”
The journalists union has decided to go ahead with the case seeking the police to arrest the real culprits of the incident and will organize more such protest marches.
