Chhattisgarh: 2 Naxals Killed in Bastar Gunbattle

Raipur: Two Maoists were on Tuesday gunned down in an encounter with security personnel in a forest near Tadmetla in Sukma district under south Bastar region in Chhattisgarh, police said.

The two slain ultras, identified as Sodi Deva and Raba Deva, carried a bounty of Rs one lakh each on them, Sukma district deputy superintendent of police Rajat Nag said.

They were members of Jagargunda area committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), police said.

According to the police, acting on a tip off on the presence of 10-12 Maoists in a forest in between Tadmetla and Duela, a joint search operation comprising personnel of district reserve group (DRG), CRPF and district force was launched in the area.

Maoists opened fire on the search party when the latter closed in their hideout, leading to a gun battle between them.

Later, security forces recovered bodies of the two Naxals at the spot after the encounter ended.

A .12 bore double-barrel rifle and a pistol were recovered at the encounter site, police said.

The encounter took place close to the site in Tadmetla where 76 CRPF were massacred by Maoists in April 2010.
