DMK President M K Stalin urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give up on his plans to convene a Governors’ conference and discuss the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 along with the President Ram Nath Kovind and the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank.’

Since the Lok Sabha would soon discuss the policy, holding the discussion with the Centre’s representatives in the States would blunt democracy, Stalin said in a statement on Saturday.

When the Centre did not discuss the NEP, prior to its release, with the Central Advisory Board of Education, in which State Ministers would be a part, discussing it with governors would amount to denigrating the States and weaken the powers of the Lok Sabha, he said.

Pointing out that the committee constituted by the State government under the Principal Secretary for Education was an eyewash as it comprised two former Vice-chancellors and four present Vice-chancellors, Stalin called up the government to include representatives of parents and students, besides educationalists and activists who had been shining the light on the dark side of NEP.
