Kozhikode: 70 CCTV cams get functional again
KOZHIKODE: Putting an end to the confusion over the repairs of defunct cameras at traffic junctions and important points in the city, 70 of the cameras have been repaired. Six more new ones will be installed in the other junctions, officials said. Investigations had suffered a setback when the CCTV cameras at key points in the city became defunct. Repairs were carried out by Keltron, which installed the cameras in the city. The cameras would be a relief to the city police soon as almost all major junctions and happening places were under ‘round-the-clock’ scan from the control room, said the police.
Any suspicious movement of vehicles, individuals, groups and mobs could be traced and patrol teams could be alerted, it was pointed out. Moreover, the footage would help the police identify the culprits who unleashed violence during agitations and clashes. Some of the cameras were destroyed when trees fell during the rainy season. The repairs were completed in just three weeks, officials said. The cameras to be reinstated after repair works are - three in Kalluthankadavu and three in Pottammal-Thondayad junction. Apart from the CCTV cameras at the junctions, the cameras in the flying squad vehicles were also repaired.
