Kerala decision to reopen bars increases sales

The biggest sales were recorded on Sunday when liquor and beer worth Rs 71.17 crore were sold compared to Rs 59.51 crore last season.

Thiruvananthapuram: The decision of the state government to reopen bars has increased the sale of liquor this Onam. The turnover was Rs 48.42 crore on Thiruvonam day on Monday compared to last year's Rs 45 crore. The LDF government had in July reopened closed bars in three-star and above category hotels as part of its liquor policy. During ten days of Onam, beginning from August 25, the sale recorded an all-time high of Rs 440.6 crore as against Rs 411.14 last season - an increase of 16 percent.

On the Onam eve, it was for Rs '71.1 crore, against last year's Rs 51.51 crore. The biggest sales were recorded on Sunday when liquor and beer worth Rs 71.17 crore were sold compared to Rs 59.51 crore last season. The maximum sales of Rs 38.60 crore were recorded in Irinjalakuda on Thiruvonam day. At Irinjalakuda highest sales was on Sunday, amounting to Rs 29.46 crore.
