Thiruvananthapuram: Confusion still prevailed in the medical education sector even after the admissions to MBBS courses were completed on August 31. The final fee structure still depended on the decision of the fee regulatory committee headed by Justice Rajendrababu which is expected by October only. There has also been no clarity on the scholarships proposed by the committee by earmarking '5 lakh per seat as corpus fund for giving scholarships for BPL category candidates from the fee of '20 lakh collected from NRI students. Moreover, the managements are likely challenge the government decision to convert 117 vacant NRI seats to merit quota seats
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has cancelled the admissions made to 150 seats in Al-Azhar medical college, Thodupuzha, on the basis of the petition filed by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The admissions were made based on the High Court verdict. However, the college has submitted a petition challenging the decision which the Supreme Court is scheduled to take up on Friday. The DM Medical College, Wayanad, and Mount Zion Medical College, Adoor, had also conducted admissions based on the High Court nod.
The petitions filed by the MCI will also come up in the Supreme Court soon. The spot admission to fill up 26 NRI seats in four self-financing dental colleges will be held on September 8 at the office of the CEE. The spot admission is conducted on the basis of the medical rank list published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE). The candidates, who have secured admission to MBBS and BDS, will not be allowed to participate in the spot admission.
