HYDERABAD: Justice K. Surender of the Telangana High Court on Friday granted bail to one of the accused in a hit-and-run case. The judge was dealing with a criminal petition filed by Banoth Ganesh who was present along with the driver when the car rammed into two women, mother and daughter, who were walking on the road in Hydershakote. The two women died on the spot and the police arrested all those present in the car.
Final hearing on Kotha Cheruvu
A two-judge bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar defer-red hearing on a writ plea that challenged proceedings issued with respect to acquiring land within the full tank level limits of Kotha Cheruvu / Naya talab of Nirmal. K. Anju Ku-mar Reddy filed a PIL challenging the expansion of NH-61 from Nirmal to Bangalpet and setting aside the same. The bench reasoned that since the pleadings in the matter were completed, the matter be listed on August 9 for a final hearing.
Some schools not under RTE
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T Vinod Kumar declared that the provisions of the Right to Education Act, 2009 do not apply to non-aided minority education institutions. The bench was dealing with an appeal by Little Flower High School challenging an order of a single judge who had negated the plea of the school that it was not governed or obliged to follow the provisions of the Act. It had questioned the direction of the education department to promote a student from Class III to Class IV. In the appeal, the bench made clear that as laid down by the Supreme Court, non-aided minority education institutions were not governed by the provisions of the Act. The order of the original authority was without the authority of law. The bench recorded the concession of the school to permit the student to pursue Class IV.
Medical seat for transgender
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice T. Vinod Kumar granted time to the state government, the Centre and Kaloji Narayan Rao University to comply with a direction for providing a medical seat to a transgender doctor. Earlier, Sagarika K., counsel, pointed out how the petitioner was made to run around offices, and every authority had disowned the duty to provide reservations for transgenders.
