Telangana tells millers to repay Rs 117 crore

Thirty-two rice millers came forward to clear their debts of around Rs 44.55 crore.

Hyderabad: Civil supplies department officials conducted a meeting with rice millers who are indebted to the government and directed them to pay the government as early as possible.

Officials said that figures stated that between 2011 and 2015, 89 rice millers had to provide 73,000 metric tonnes of rice worth around Rs 117.22 crore. Civil supplies Commissioner Akun Mr Sabharwal urged rice millers to clear their debts.

During the meeting, the millers appealed to the officials to consider paying the money instead of rice as per the market rate and requested them to consider one-time payment and collateral surety instead of bank guarantee.

Thirty-two rice millers came forward to clear their debts of around Rs 44.55 crore. They also agreed to pay `11.14 crore as the first instalment.
