Six killed in jeep-bus smash in Wayanad

The family was returning back to Koduvally after visiting a relative's house in Wayanad.

KOZHIKODE: Six people, who were travelling in a jeep from Wayanad towards Kozhikode were killed when a speeding bus rammed into their vehicle in Adivaram, Thamarassery. Five of the deceased belonged to the same family. Two people, who are admitted in government medical college hospital, are critical according to the hospital sources. The family was returning back to Koduvally after visiting a relative’s house in Wayanad.

The deceased have been identified as Abdu Rahman, 63, Vadakkekkara house, Karuvan poyil, Koduvally, his wife Subaida, 55, their grandchildren Muhammed Nishan, 8, Ayisha Luha, 7, and Fathima Hana, 5, and jeep driver V.C. Pramod, Vaduvanchal, Wayanad. Soon after the private bus coming from Kozhikode, collided with the jeep, while trying to overtake a car, another car behind the jeep also collided with a bus in the same lane.

Though travellers in that car were also injured, none of them are critical. The traffic in the route was cleared three hours after the accident around 2.30 pm. The bodies are kept at medical college morgue, private hospital in Kaithappoyil and Taluk hospital, Thamarassery. District collector U.V. Jose and E.K. Vijayan MLA visited medical college to request to speed up the post mortem procedures.
