Thrissur: Kerala State Women’s Commission chairperson M.C. Josephine has come to the defence of the woman who walked out of her marriage and went along with her lover at Guruvayur last week. The young woman had earned the wrath of social media for withdrawing from the marriage just 10 minutes after tying the knot with the groom at Lord Sree Krishna Temple. Several posts had taken her to task for the commotion and fight between the relatives of the bride and the groom after the wedding ceremony and at the auditorium where the reception and lunch were planned to be held.
Mrs Josephine, who visited her house at Mullassery here, collected her statement and told mediapersons here that legal action will be taken against those who were maligning her on the social media. “The bridegroom has sought a compensation of Rs 8 lakh from the parents of the bride. My opinion is that there is no need to pay such compensation. Society must rally behind the woman in such issues,” she added.
She could not tell all the details of the issue as it would have legal implication. The woman told the commission that she had conveyed to the groom about her affair with a youth and that she was not willing for the arranged marriage. Meanwhile, the bride’s lover, 20, said in a Facebook post that he was doing his engineering course in a college in Tamil Nadu and that he would marry her as soon as he turned 21.
