Naidu to name Bhogapuram airport after Alluri

VIJAYAWADA: Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced that soon after the Telugu Desam forms the government in the forthcoming elections, an Alluri Sitarama Raju Memorial will be established in Amaravati and Bhogapuram airport will be named after the legendary revolutionary leader.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the 125 birth anniversary celebrations of Alluri Sitarama Raju at A Convention in Vijayawada, the former chief minister said this legendary leader was killed by the British 100 years ago. People still remembering him reflects how great Alluri is.

He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself inaugurated last year the 125th birth anniversary programme of Sitarama Raju. The celebrations concluded on Tuesday with the address by President Droupadi Murmu.

Naidu said Alluri Sitarama Raju had resisted the atrocities of the British Empire. While the great Gandhiji fought for independence with non-violence, legendary Alluri Seetharama Raju, Bhagat Singh and Nethaji Subhash Chandra Bose took to arms for achieving freedom.

The former CM said when Balayogi had been the speaker of Lok Sabha, he had written to the centre that statues of Alluri and late N.T. Rama Rao be installed in the Parliament building.
