Uncertainty continues at Central Polytechnic College
Thiruvananthapuram: Uncertainty over 360 seats in the Central Polytechnic College, Vattiyoorkavu continued even as the first round of allotment for polytechnics is scheduled to be held from July 8 to 12. Incidentally, the college which is considered the best polytechnic college in the state has not been included in the district-wise allotment and counselling being held at the polytechnics selected in each district as the nodal Polytechnic College.
Admission to 362 seats in the college has been affected due to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE’s) decision. The State Government had earlier sanctioned 26 new posts in the Central Polytechnic College, Vattiyoorkavu, as part of its efforts to remove the restrictions imposed by the AICTE on new admissions to the institution.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had written to Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani on June 13 seeking extension of approval from the AICTE. The failure of the authorities to ensure completion of online registration in February 2015 has resulted in this impasse.
As a result, the college was considered as a new college when it submitted the application for the approval process for 2016 on the AICTE website. As a result, the AICTE insisted that a student teacher ratio of 20:1 ratio was made compulsory for the college. However, the college was following the 36:1 ratio followed from the time the college was established.
