Travancore Devaswom Board angry at Sabari crackers ban

Mr Tharayil further said that the gunpowder ritual had been carried out as a way to keep wild animals away from devotees trekking up the hill shrine.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Travancore Devaswom Board member Ajay Tharayil has termed as "illegal" and "a slight of Hindu traditions" the Forest Department's decision to shut down the place where 'vedivazhupadu nercha' was carried out in Sabarimala. "The Department officials had without serving any notice dismantled the platform for conducting the offering and also the temporary lodging constructed for employees," Mr Tharayil said in a statement.

"This is an encroachment into Hindu temples and an insult to the centuries-old rituals and traditions of the temple," he said. Mr Tharayil further said that the gunpowder ritual had been carried out as a way to keep wild animals away from devotees trekking up the hill shrine.
