Settle Kerala State Electricity Board arrears at one go
Thiruvananthapuram: KSEB Limited will soon launch a one-time settlement scheme for domestic and industrial consumers who have accumulated arrears and also for those whose connections have been cut. The deadline to apply for the settlement scheme will be announced soon. The Board plans to collect at least Rs 10 crore through the settlement scheme. This is just a minuscule portion of the Rs 1920 crore of arrears the company has accumulated over the years.
LT, HT and EHT consumers who have piled up arrears for more than two years can avail of the scheme. Interest will be charged at the rate of five percent from those who have piled up arrears for more than five years. For those with arrears between two and five years, the interest rate will be eight percent.
"Consumers who are facing revenue recovery proceedings and those whose cases are still in court can apply after their cases have been disposed of," the official said. Those opting for the settlement scheme should submit the legal collection or service charges.
Domestic consumers will have to submit their applications to their nearest section offices. In the case of industrial consumers, they should submit their applications to the special officer in the revenue section of Vydhyuthi Bhavan, Pattom, in Thiruvananthapuram.
In cases where the connection has been fully disconnected, minimum charge and fixed charges will be taken only for six months. However, public institutions are bigger defaulters than domestic consumers. The quasi-government and state PSUs alone owe the KSEB Rs 1106.31 crore. LT, HT asnd EHT consumers, on the other hand, owe Rs 664.7 crore.
