Anti-graft team ready to ally with Mayor Thottathil Raveendran
Kozhikode: An anti-corruption corruption campaigners, Azhimathi Virudha Janakeeya Munnani, which was instrumental in initiating vigilance probe in 17 cases against two former mayors, a former deputy mayor and other officials, have extended their support to Thottathil Raveendran to end corruption. The committee is of the opinion that the new mayor is effective in taking strong and brave action against faulty officials whereas his predecessors were very weak and themselves indulged in corruption.
“Mr Raveendran has an excellent track record during his term in 2000-05 for taking strict action against erring officials and also keeping middlemen off the office matters. We will extend all possible help to him in his efforts,” said general convener K.P. Vijaya Kumar. “For many years, the outside interference in the administration was creating corrupt officials, especially in revenue, town planning and health departments.”
The committee, however, will continue their fight in existing vigilance cases against former mayors M. Bhaskaran and A.K. Premajam and former deputy mayor P.T. Abdul Latheef. “In 11 cases, the investigation is yet to complete whereas in two cases the high court has ordered further enquiry. Rest of the cases were dismissed, but we will fight to reopen those cases. Our battle is not against the CPM but corruption. Even against the opposition leader, we had filed cases,” Mr Kumar said.
