ALAPPUZHA: The Nehru Trophy Boat Race (NTBR) Society meeting held here decided to introduce a new starting and tracking system for the latest edition of the famous event to be held on the second Saturday of August. The new electronic device is being tried out after the earlier system failed and invited the wrath of the public in the last edition. Two private firms have come forward with idea of the system. The meeting has decided to test their systems.
The district collector T.V. Anupama, who is also chairperson of NTBRS, sought suggestions from the public to make changes in sub-committees. “If there are no suggestion for changes in the committee, the status quo will continue,” the collector said. The audit committee, in the meeting, had submitted a report estimating '1.90 crore income and '2.02 crore as expense. At least Rs 12lakh were additionally utilised. Though '1 crore grant was received from the state government , the Central government has not yet sanctioned the grant.
