Big search team hunts for missing girl Jesna Maria James

St Dominic College students join police in forests of Idukki district.

Kottayam: At least 100 police personnel and volunteers from the National Service Scheme at St Dominic’s College Kanjirapally conducted search for missing girl Jesna in the forests of Idukki district on Tuesday morning. The search operations were carried out by 10 teams of police officials comprising 10 persons in each team. The police personnel conducted the search in the forest areas of Erumely, Mundakayam, Peermade and Kutti-kanam.

The search was conducted at seven places including Parunthumpara, Mat-haikokka, Panchalimedu in Idukki district and at Ponthanpuzha, 27th mile and Mundakkayam in Kottayam district. She was a second year BA student at the St Dominic’s College, Kanjir-apally. Jesna, daughter of Kunn-athuveettil James, has been missing from March 22 this year after she was on her way to Punjavayal to the residence of her father’s sister. She boarded the bus from Mukkot-tuthara in the Erumely – Pamba route by 9.30 am and reached the Erumely bus stand and from there boarded bus to Mundakayam.

The CCTV footages of the Kanimala Service Cooperative Bank shows her present in the vehicle and after that she was untraceable. Tiruvalla DySP R Chandrasekara Pilai told this newspaper that the police has got no evidence regarding Jesna in the investigation held so far and hence the search operations were held at the forest places. “In the investigation carried out by us so far no information was available,” he said.

A special team was constituted on the basis of the instructions from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan after the girl was found missing from her house on March 22. Though there were speculations that Jesna was found some where in Bengaluru and a police team went to the place to ascertain her presence, they were not able to find out the missing girl. Earlier, the teachers and students of the St Dominic’s College, Kanjir-apally give shape to an action council protesting against the delay in finding out Jesna’s whereabouts.
