Now, Congressmen to go by green protocol

The DCC also plans to form a Green Army'.

KOZHIKODE: For the first time, the Kozhikode District Congress Committee (DCC) issued a ‘Green protocol’ for its workers, calling for implementing it in their homes. According to DCC president T. Siddique, the party would discard flex boards and the already used ones would be converted into grow bags and there were plans to sell them in the future. Actor Joy Mathew, who inaugurated the campaign, said that if the writers stopped their ‘unnecessary writings’, even a forest could be saved.

“The most number of publications are from Kerala. The writers could not do anything against communalism here. Two trees are needed to print 10,000 copies of a book. Annually more than 7,000 trees are being felled to print unnecessary literature. We have new technologies and digital writing. Why don’t the writers resort to new modes of publishing?” he asked. According to the Green protocol, the party workers will plant one sapling on theirs and family members’ birthdays.

The DCC also plans to form a ‘Green Army’. Joy Mathew inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling. He commented that the Left Government was spending crores of rupees on the advertising to plant one crore saplings. The event was presided over by Mr Siddique. Environmentalists MA Johnson, A Achuthan were also present. More than 2,000 saplings were distributed at the block and assembly levels.
