Necklace Road damaged at PV Ghat as sewerage board work is incomplete

GHMC and HMDA officials say that they have no role in repairing the road and it needs to be done by the sewerage board.

Hyderabad: The sewerage board’s slow pace in completing the nala diversion work has led to a major part of the Necklace Road opposite Sanjeevaiah Park remaining in a poor condition for over a year.

Though the biggest nala of Hussainsagar — Kukatpally — has been diverted, the road hasn’t been repaired because of minor pending work. GHMC and HMDA officials say that they have no role in repairing the road and it needs to be done by the sewerage board.

The damaged stretch starts ahead of PV Ghat and goes up to the power sub-station on Necklace Road. Traffic is allowed on one side of the road. The road towards PV Ghat has been levelled but is badly damaged in front of the sub-station.

The compound wall of HMDA’s herbal park was demolished to make way for the pipeline work. The two recreational parks, the spice and herbal gardens of the HMDA, which are supposed to generate revenue, remain shut.

Asked about the slow pace of work, sewerage board managing director M. Dana Kishore said, “Transco has taken up digging works for underground cabling; officials say they will take another 10 days to complete the work. HMWSSB has diverted the nala and levelled a portion of the road, a new road will be laid before the monsoons.”
