Two devotees died in Saleswaram temple due to a stampede

HYDERABAD: Two devotees died due to suffocation at the Saleswaram Lingamaya Swamy temple at the Nallamalla forest in Nagarkurnool district on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Chandraiah, 55, of Nagarkurnool and Vijaya, 40, of Mumbai.

Chandraiah was stuck in a stampede and died due to suffocation, police said. He was shifted to a safe place and provided CPR but in vain. Vijay, who had come to the temple with her relatives from Amangal, died of a heart stroke.

According to police, the three-day-long Saleswaram Lingamaya Swamy festival saw thousands of devotees, including those from AP and Maharashtra, offering prayers to Lord Shiva.
