AP V&E book 208 vendors for under weighing

VIJAYAWADA: AP Vigilance & Enforcement department officials, along with Legal Metrology authorities, carried out checks at 431 fish, chicken and mutton shops in various districts of the state and registered 208 cases for violation of norms.

Officials said they had received complaints that certain fish, chicken and mutton vendors are using non-standard weights and instruments, thereby cheating customers. Following this, they conducted surprise raids all over the state on Sunday.

They inspected 431 fish, chicken and mutton shops and filed cases against 208 of them under various sections of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, for deceiving people by under weighing their products.

V&E officials said they booked cases against 16 shops in markets of Narasannapeta, Singupuram and Srikakulam in the Srikakulam district, 12 shops at Pusapatirega, Bhogapuram and Savaravalli in Vizianagaram district, eight shops at Veeraghattam and Navagam in PVP Manyam district, three shops in Visakhapatnam city, five shops at Prathipadu and Yeleswaram in Kakinada district, eight shops at Anaparthi and Kadiyam in East Godavari district, nine shops at Kothapeta in Dr B.R. Ambedkar district, 11 shops in Eluru town, 12 shops in Bhimavaram town of West Godavari district, 11 shops in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district, six shops in Nunna market of Vijayawada Rural and 12 shops in Guntur city.

Cases have further been registered against 11 shops in Parchuru, Karemchedu and Chirala mandals of Bapatla district, 15 shops at Narsaraopeta town in Palnadu district, nine shops at Ongole town and in Maddipadu mandal of Prakasam district, 11 shops at Kavali, Butchireddypalem, Podalakur and Nellore city in Nellore district, 13 shops at Tirupati, 14 shops in CK. Dinne, Kadapa and Mydukuru towns of YSR district, 11 shops in Gooty and Guntakal towns of Anantapur district, four shops in Dharmavaram, Bathalapalli and Kothacheruvu mandals of Sri Satyasai district, four shops in Kodumuru mandal of Kurnool district and three shops in Dhone mandal of Nandyal district.

V&E officials have asked vendors to follow rules and regulations as laid down in Legal Metrology Act, 2009, as they will be continuing their checks periodically.
