Thiruvananthapuram: Police on Tuesday arrested another brother of former imam Shafeeq Al Qasimi, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, for helping him to go into hiding.
Noushad who is settled in Perumbavoor was arrested from Pollachi for helping the Qasimi in Perumbavoor, Coimbatore and Vijayawada. The police team has got vital information about his whereabouts after the arrest.
The Kochi rural police had on February 15 arrested his brother, identified as Al Ameen, from his house in Tripunithura, for harbouring him there.
As they suspected police had got details of his hideout, he helped him to leave the state.
The team comprising 14 officials under the direct supervision of Thiruvananthapuram Range IG Ashok Yadav recorded the arrest.
The team included Thiruvananthapuram rural Rural crime branch DySP D. Ashokan who holds the charge of Nedumangad DySP, Palode CI Manoj Kumar K.B., Vithura SHO V. Nijam, three sub-inspectors, three additional sub-inspectors, two senior civil police officers and two civil officers.
