Pudukkottai: Two dead in Jallikattu, 110 hurt

More than 110 persons were injured in two separate Jallikattu' events in Pudukkottai and Ariyalur districts on Sunday.

Pudukkottai: At least two persons including a bull-tamer were gored to death and more than 110 persons were injured in two separate ‘Jallikattu’ events in Pudukkottai and Ariyalur districts on Sunday.

Police said, a bull-tamer (Maadu Pidi Veerar) and a member of the general public who came to witness the Jallikattu event were killed and at least 60 others were injured in a sporting event at Thiruvappur near Pudukkottai on Sunday.

Over 500 bulls and 300 tamers took part in the event, which was inaugurated by the district collector, Mr. S Ganesh. A bull attacked a tamer Vellaisamy (42) of Ellaipatti and a spectator, Vasim (27) of Pudukkottai. Both of them were rushed to the government hospital here, but they unfortunately succumbed to their injuries, police said.

In another similar event, at least 50 persons were injured in a ‘Jallikattu’ at Venganur near Ariyalur on Sunday. While 49 persons were treated at the event venue, one bull-tamer Ayyappan (21) of Kallagam was referred to the Government medical college hospital Thanjavur, police added.
