Hyderabad residents protest dump yard

Protestors raised slogans against Panchayat Raj officials for selecting the place for teh dump yard though it is located amidst residential colonies.

Hyderabad: More than 200 residents of Maytas Hill Country, Nizampet and surrounding areas held a protest at a dump yard located in the Bachupally gram panchayat.

The protestors raised slogans against Panchayat Raj officials for selecting the place for teh dump yard though it is located amidst residential colonies. The village upa sar-panch and ward members also took part. This newspaper had recently reported on the residents’ complaint of the area being overwhelmed by foul-smelling gases.

Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Kasani Veeresh, a local resident, said that noxious fumes from the dump yard were enveloping residential areas. “At night we are not able to bear the bad smell,” he said.

Upa sarpanch Syed Saleem said they would continue the protest till the government shifts the dump yard. Leaders from local colony associations Ch. Divakar, D. Venkatesh, Mahender, Ch. Sathish, K. Sudhakar participated.
