Centre Spent ₹3,900 Crore on Fisheries in AP: Rupala

VISAKHAPATNAM: The closing ceremony of Sagar Parikrama was performed at Budagatlapalem in Etcherla mandal on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Union fisheries minister Parshottam Rupala said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated ₹37,000 crore for development of fisheries in the country. department.

“Of this, ₹3,900 crore has been spent on AP,” the union said addressing a gathering at the fishing harbour.

Starting from Nellore district in AP, Parshottam Rupala visited various fishing harbours and jetties in Andhra Pradesh before reaching Budagatlapalem. He said earlier, Kisan credit cards had been given only to farmers. “But today Narendra Modi is offering Kisan credit cards to fishermen as well,” he pointed out.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. L. Murugan, who is also a union minister of state for fisheries, said fishermen had highlighted the various issues they had been facing during the Sagar Parikrama Yatra.

State fisheries minister Sidiri Appalaraju said in AP, Srikakulam is the district with the longest coastline in the country. Yet, percentage of people migrating for work is high in the district. He underlined that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken all measures to prevent migration from the district by constructing a fishing harbour, which will be completed soon.
